The long and narrow country of Chile follows South America’s west coast, bracketed by the Pacific Ocean and the imposing monoliths of the Andes, across parched deserts and glacial plains, collecting all the hallmarks of this remarkable continent. From smooth and sophisticated Santiago to the remote southern lands of Patagonia, South America's most peaceful and affluent country also has a long list of essential experiences. Chile is a bewitching place of extremes: millennial glaciers in the southernmost part of the planet, enchanted forests, fjords, lakes reflecting massive volcanoes, sparkling blue glaciers, islands full of legends, winemaking traditions, the modern city of Santiago and every variation of wonder in between. Chile’s wide-open landscapes are on a scale of symphonies, and they flood you with feeling of being alive, in the spirit of "buena onda," or "good vibes".

During our once-in-a-lifetime Chilean journey, we’ll start in the multi-faceted and cosmopolitan city of Santiago, set against the striking backdrop of the Andes which frame Chile's capital. From here, we’ll venture out to tour the photogenic vineyards surrounding the city and producing some of the world’s best wines. We’ll spend a day in the atmospheric town of Valparaiso, facing the Pacific and pulsating with a bohemian vibe and intense colors of some of the best street art in Latin America, and we'll enjoy a traditional Chilean cooking class here. We'll spend four days exploring the untouched and remote Patagonia, a mythic land of fjords, mountains and glaciers hidden among green landscapes that give way to the horizon that disappears at the end of the world. For centuries, Patagonia was the end of the known world. Cut off from the world by great natural barriers of the sea, the mountains and the ice fields, it is still vast, exotic, wild and infinite in its beauty.

Endless stars are scattered across the immense sky over the Atacama desert. The Atacama, framed by the formidable grandeur of the Andes is the driest place on Earth, yet it is dotted with fertile oases and its otherworldly landscapes sustain an abundance of life. The ancient cultures of this region are still present in the adobe homes and old plazas of San Pedro de Atacama, while active geysers, stunning salt flats, and gorgeous lagoons redefine your perception of a desert, and the nightfall reveals a location so renowned for stargazing that there are close to 40 observatories found here, including the largest astronomical project in the world. The Atacama Desert tour will take us from the rich cultural heritage of San Pedro across desert lands that have been likened to the surface of the moon for their strange beauty, so alien in appearance and conditions that NASA even tested Martian rovers here. Unlike any other environment you'll find in Chile, or indeed anywhere else on the planet, a visit to Atacama is like taking a step into another world entirely.

TESTIMONIALS

A woman traveler said it well.  She said every new S&S trip was a trip of a lifetime for her.  I feel the same way too. I completely enjoyed the trip to Chile and Eastern Island.  From tasting the delicious Chilean cuisines, seeing so many spectacular natural wonders and finally meeting the moai status in Eastern Island, it made me feel so happy.  I feel humble to see the largest ceremonial structure and monument in Ahu Tongariki and learning their history of being carved by the Rapa Nui people on Rapa Nui.  The whole experience was unreal.  I am still processing it. - Jan from Minnesota

S & S tours are well organized, accommodations and meals are excellent, a good balance of planned activity and free time. The local guides enhance the experiences and are usually outstanding. - Jill from Wisconsin

Chile is a great trip, such an interesting country. I saw my first iceberg, first glacier, first fjord, first ventricular clouds in Patagonia plus the Atacama Desert is like a trip to Mars, so very interesting. Chile has fabulous wines and the food is good, the people are kind and welcoming. There is zero crime in Patagonia and the Atacama areas. - Pat from Texas

It was an excellent tour. To see that much of Chile in a short period of time was wonderful. It is such a big and beautiful country. The people are so warm. - Kathy from Wisconsin

I really enjoyed this tour. It covered the most interesting parts of Chile. Now I’m interested in the rest of South America! Santiago, Easter Island, Patagonia & Atacama Desert was one of the best tours that I have experienced. We had very knowledgeable guides that shared very interesting information – all with a great group of women! – Barbara from Alberta, Canada

This was a totally amazing adventure! Easter Island was the best experience, but choosing the best experience was a tough call since it was a great trip! – Gayle from Oregon

Very satisfied with this tour! Expectations met! Dinners covered by Sights & Soul were excellent. I appreciated ordering off menus (not banquet menus) in quality restaurants. Easter Island has always been a dream destination, since childhood. Seeing the statues and hearing perspective from a local guide was really interesting. – Anne from New York

I loved Patagonia’s glaciers and the Moon Valley in Atacama – Valerie from Alabama

This was the best tour ever, a real dream trip! – Diana from British Columbia

Each and every tour I take with Sights and Soul becomes my newest “Trip of A Lifetime”. This is my 4th Sights and Soul Trip and it did not disappoint! In addition, the friendships formed by the women traveling together are fantastic!
