Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Day 4: Bangkok, Thailand This morning, we'll arrive in Bangkok, one of the world's most fascinating cities which combines the immense tradition and relentless modernity and whose contrasts and collisions make it the remarkable, all-encompassing experience: one moment you can be dodging whizzing hordes of mopeds, the next, absorbed into the blissful tranquility of a silent temple courtyard. Ornate towers and places of worship blend in alongside cathedral-like shopping malls and skyscrapers, while the streets hum with bartering from the markets that spill out wherever you walk. In the morning, we will embark on a scenic and informative half-day excursion, exploring two revered sites dedicated to Buddha: the Wat Yannasangwararam, a temple under the patronage of His Majesty King Rama IX housing several buildings with diverse architectural styles, surrounded by serene gardens and a tranquil lake, and known for its modern design, different from traditional Thai temples. Next, we will visit Viharn Sien, a spectacular museum and shrine built in 1987, designed in the style of a royal Chinese temple which houses priceless Chinese artifacts, including a large white jade statue of the Goddess of Mercy, clay soldiers and bronze horse carts from the Chin Zi Emperor’s mausoleum, the emperor's golden throne, and ancient Chinese paintings. In the morning, we will set out on a short drive to the Sanctuary of Truth (Wooden Pavilion), to enjoy a guided tour of this largest wooden building in Thailand, constructed according to ancient Thai specifications, crafted entirely from Thailand’s native teak. Adorned with intricate and detailed wooden sculptures that reflect ancient visions of Earth, ancient knowledge, and Eastern philosophy, this building is a sight to behold. Inside, the cavernous inner-chapel reveals scenes from Chinese, Hindu, and Buddhist traditions, with elements of animism and geomancy woven into the designs. Afterwards, we'll travel along the scenic Pattaya Beach Road to Phra Tumnak Hill, where we can take a short walk up to the Pattaya Viewpoint, with iconic views over the Pattaya Bay. Formerly known as Saigon, the city was affectionately labelled the Pearl of the Orient by the French. On arrival, we'll set out on an introductory tour of this vibrant and dynamic metropolis. We will stop at the Vietnam History Museum, one of the best places to learn about the country's past, from the Bronze Age to the early communist period. Afterwards, we'll head to the Notre Dame Cathedral, recognized by its imposing twin spires, stopping on the way at the impressive Reunification Palace and the elegant Saigon City Hall. Next, we'll drive to the vibrant Chinatown to visit the bustling Ben Thanh Market, one of the largest and most famous markets in the city, where a short stroll will offer us a kaleidoscope of colors and sounds. Then, it's on to the beautiful Thien Hau Temple, dedicated to the Goddess of the Sea and Protector of Sailors, before stopping at one of Saigon’s renowned lacquerware establishments to learn about the intricate process of lacquer ware production. Our first stop will be the Museum of Ho Chi Minh City, originally the first Presidential Palace of Southern Vietnam before the Unification Palace. Next, we will visit the Reunification Hall, formerly the Presidential Palace of the South Vietnamese regime. This historical site offers fascinating insight into the events leading to the end of the Vietnam War. We will then continue to the War Remnants Museum, where we will explore war relics and detailed exhibits about the American War in Vietnam. The museum features several themed rooms and a yard filled with period military equipment, offering a somber and thought-provoking experience. After breakfast, we'll transfer to Vietnam's most beautiful town of Hoi An, an atmospheric 17th-century trading port on the banks of the Thu Bon River. Lost in time half a millennium ago, the town reflects many ancient traditions as well as the diverse architectural styles influenced by Dutch, Chinese, Portuguese, and Japanese traders who helped build it. We will have almost a full day to explore the town's exotic markets, the 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge, and narrow streets lined with low-tiled roof houses from the 17th century and enjoy the ever-present festive atmosphere. There will also be some time free to visit the numerous tailor shops and indulge in the best shopping in Vietnam, before returning to our ship in the evening. Ha Long Bay is steeped in legend, with a story of a dragon protecting the locals by forming a barrier of rocky islets. The extraordinary, mossy limestone mountains that rear from the waters of Ha Long Bay form one of the most spectacular natural landscapes on the planet. At least 1,600 green islands rise over a flotilla of strung-together fishing boats and floating villages. Spectacular at any time, sunset bathes the remarkable limestone formations in warm, honey-colored light, adding an extra layer to the seascape's heart-stirring beauty. Today's exploration of the stunning seascapes of Ha Long Bay will be aboard a local junk. As we sail, we'll enjoy the mesmerizing scenery of towering cliffs and islets rising from the sea, while sipping refreshing green tea, listening to our guide highlighting the key sights along the way, and weather permitting, we can stop for an optional visit to Thien Cung Cave, where we can enter the narrow grotto and marvel at its impressive stalactites and the grand depiction of heroic tales on the cave's east wall. Each evening, the Symphony of Lights transforms the waterfront’s gleaming buildings into a colorful canvas, best seen from the Star Ferry. This is the city where the future and tradition collide, as apparent in the skyscrapers, some of which feature large gaps specifically designed to allow spirit dragons to soar freely from the hills to the waterfront. Victoria Peak is the highest point in Hong Kong, and offers panoramic views of the city, harbor, and the surrounding islands.
