Norway is a land of intense natural beauty which is hard to overstate, especially in winter, its signature season. Mountains of dizzying heights, deep fjords carved out by ice age glaciers, waterfalls cascading down mountainsides, and the awe-inspiring Northern Lights. Spectacular architecture, quaint, affluent cities and exciting local cuisine enhance the experience further. Norway’s natural wonders, dramatic and diverse, range from serene forest-covered hills in the southeast, spectacular fjords and glaciers in the west, and the Arctic wilderness in the north. The seals and eagles reign, the whales and fish patrol the deep fjords, and small villages sleep along the sides of each fjord.

The Norway in Winter adventure will awake the explorer in you. We'll journey from the sophisticated capital city of Oslo to the Nordic town of Tromso in Norwegian Lapland. Set against the background of the Lyngen Alps, with the sacred Tromsdalstind peak, Tromso is in the middle of the Northern Lights country, among the world's most beautiful islands and fjords, in the extreme Arctic wilderness. We'll spend three days here, playing in the snow, riding the reindeer and the huskies, and chasing the Northern Lights, before we end the adventure in the historic, Hanseatic League town of Bergen. With its stirring and varied landscapes, Norway is one of the most exciting and varied winter adventure destinations in the world, and we will explore this rugged countryside, coming face-to-face with natural wonders of epic proportions and enjoying the local culture and the everyday life of people who live here.

At the beginning of the tour, we'll spend 3 days in Oslo, staying at an upscale hotel in the heart of Norway's sophisticated capital, and visiting its cultural highlights: the modern Opera House, the Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Fram Museum, and we'll enjoy a winter cruise in Oslofjord. Then, we'll fly to Tromso, where we'll spend two nights at a Nordic design city hotel, as we pass our 3 days here dog sledding and reindeer sledding, experiencing the Sami culture and chasing the Northern Lights. We'll conclude the tour in the Old World town of Bergen, staying for another 4 days. From here, we will explore this photogenic city with its colorful architecture and foreboding forts bringing to life its Hanseatic glory. We'll also spend a day experiencing Norway in a Nutshell, the iconic train and boat journey that traverses the hauntingly beautiful Norwegian landscapes of the magnificent fjords, and idyllic rural vistas, taking the spectacular Flam Mountain Railway and cruising on the Aurlandsfjord and the narrow Nærøyfjord. We'll spend another day in the 1,110-year old town of Trondheim, seeing its monastery, its colorful wooden buildings lining the Nidelva River, its historic quays and wharves, a beautiful red city bridge and the impressive Nidaros Cathedral.

Testimonials

Overall, the tour was amazing with all the beautiful scenery and the activities such as fjord cruises, dog sledding, reindeer sledding, time with the Sami people, and seeing the Northern Lights. I am so glad I did this tour! - Dawn from California (Norway Winter 2, 2024)

For decades I've traveled the world with family and friends. Now an older solo traveler, I've had mixed experiences with tour companies. Often the itinerary was exactly what I wanted, but the groups were mainly couples, families or friends. I'm grateful to the friend who recommended Sights & Soul. The tours include destinations on my bucket list, they are well organized with personable and knowledgeable tour directors and, for the most part, the fellow travelers are delightful. I'm looking forward to future trips with S&S. - Cindy from Florida (Norway Winter 2024)

Watching the beautiful scenery from the boat was the best experience of the tour for me. It was the most relaxing trip I have ever had with Sights & Soul Travels! – Diana from British Columbia

I had high expectations for Norway – a long-held wish- and it was even more wonderful than I had hoped! Seeing the fjords was magical! Beautiful landscapes, fun staff onboard the ship, interesting cities and museums. I learned a lot and would go back! – Diane from Iowa

Of my three S&S tours, this was my favorite. I absolutely LOVED Norway. And I loved being on the ship, not having to pack and unpack, and yet fantastic new views every day. – Karen from New Hampshire

I thought the tour was a great experience. Norway was incredible, amazingly beautiful. – Sarah from Vermont

The tour was great – loved the Snow Hotel, the city tours, my fellow sister-travelers, nighttime dogsledding, snowmobiling, and horseback riding. Anne was always excited to be with us and take group photos and offer options and advice. - Risa from New Jersey

The February Norway tour was another amazing adventure. We saw Northern Lights, experienced dog sledding and riding Icelandic horses along the beach. The Fjords were magnificent and the scenery along the coast was beautiful. I am so glad I took this winter vacation with Sights and Soul, and Anne was a great tour leader! – Suzanne from Virginia
