Day 1: Bridgetown, Barbados Today, our adventure begins in Bridgetown, Barbados, the capital of Barbados, is a city steeped in history and vibrant culture. It serves as a poignant reminder of the island’s past, particularly with a commemorative plaque honoring those traded during the Transatlantic Slave Trade, which happened when Bridgetown was the British Empire’s most significant harbor. The city is surrounded by some amazing natural beauty, such as Carlisle Bay, a picturesque beach known for its crystal-clear waters and marine life, which offers visitors the chance to relax on the sand or explore the shipwrecks that now provide a home to various species of fish and turtles, making it a popular spot for divers. Day 2: Bequia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Today, we will discover the sights and heritage of Bequia, as we take a scenic journey in an open-air jeep. It will take us through parts of Port Elizabeth, the island's only town, and up to Mt. Pleasant for marvelous views of our ship, the Caribbean Sea and the surrounding Grenadine Islands. We will continue with a stop at the 18th-century Hamilton Fort, followed by a visit to a local fabric screen printing company, where we'll sip on a locally sourced punch while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of Bridgetown, taking in the sights, sounds, and flavors of the island as we explore its rich history, culture, and natural beauty. Day 4: Willemstad, CuraƧao, Netherlands Antilles Today, we'll take a scenic drive into Curaçao’s countryside, passing the salt flats and a photogenic flamingo habitat. Our first stop will be the Hato Caves, where we’ll explore dramatic grottos filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and crystal-clear pools. We'll take a short stroll along the Petroglyph Trail which reveals 1,500-year-old religious carvings on rock walls, offering a glimpse into the island's history. Afterward, we’ll head to the Curaçao Museum in Otrobanda, to explore contemporary art exhibits showcasing island life during the mid-19th century. In the afternoon, we’ll drive across the Queen Juliana Bridge, with views over Willemstad and the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge, linking Otrobanda and Punda en route to Chobolobo to enjoy a taste of the famous Blue Curacao Liqueur and learn how it’s made. Day 5: Oranjestad, Aruba, Aruba Today, we set out to explore, Aruba's most famous ecological attraction, the Butterfly Farm, for an unforgettable experience, as we step into a tropical garden teeming with butterflies, and encounter some of the most colorful and unusual creatures in the world. Next, we'll drive to the Aloe Factory for a guided tour focusing on the cultivation and processing of the Aloe plant. En route to the Natural Bridge, an incredible structure carved out of solid coral by the relentless pounding of the surf, we'll drive past numerous the native divi divi trees and several varieties of cacti. Day 6: Kralendijk, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles Today, we’ll explore the beaches, the history, and the landmarks of Bonaire. We will start with a drive through the capital capital city and along the northern coast of Bonaire, where we’ll see fossils, candelabra cacti, 'divi divi' trees, and the indigenous wildlife. We’ll take a stop at Goto Lake, a feeding ground for flamingos, and we'll visit Rincon Village to hear legendary tales of the 14th-century settlement. We’ll also stop at Washington National Park to see a juvenile whale skeleton, visit the Natural History Plantation Museum, and relax with drinks and snacks. In the afternoon, we’ll continue with a visit the original slave huts used by workers in the salt mines reflecting on the rich history of Bonaire. On our drive back to the ship, we'll stop at the salt ponds and flats, to learn about salt production on the island, both past and present. We’ll also visit the burial place of Ferdinando Paleologus, a descendant of Emperor Constantine the Great, whose family was driven from the throne of Constantinople by the Turks. Next, we'll visit Andromeda Botanical Gardens, a six-acre tropical paradise filled with some of the island’s most exotic plants. As we walk through the lush grounds, our guide will share with us the history and medical benefits of the flora cultivated here. Day 17: Santa Cruz de la Palma (Canary Islands), Spain As we arrive in Santa Cruz de la Palma in Canary Islands, we'll get to appreciate the island during a walking tour through the Old Quarter of Santa Cruz, where we’ll discover the best examples of Canarian architecture. Our route will then take us to the Naval Museum, home to the Barco de la Virgen (Virgin's ship), a unique caravel moored in the ravine. Here, we’ll see a reproduction of a 15th-century caravel, complemented by an impressive collection of maritime artifacts that highlight the city’s rich maritime history and architectural heritage. Afterwards, we'll travel to the highest point of the island, the Sanctuary of Las Nieves, past the lush, green landscapes of La Palma, and its famous forests. Day 18: Funchal, Madeira, Portugal This morning, on arrival on the Portuguese island of Mareira, we'll set out to experience the island's highlights. Madeira, sitting in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, is a paradise of natural beauty, with vibrant flowers, emerald green vegetation, and a stunning coastline. Two-thirds of the island is a protected area, home to the largest Laurisilva forest in the world. Our journey will begin with a drive to Ponta do Garajau, famous for its statue of Christ the Redeemer, which stands with outstretched arms looking over the sea. From here, we’ll enjoy views of Funchal and the Natural Park of Garajau, before continuing along the southern coast, past the village of Machico, said to be the landing spot of Madeira’s first settlers. Next, we'll head north to Portela Pass, located 2,197 feet above sea level, for incredible views of the mountains and the island's coastline. We'll also stop at a trout hatchery, at Poiso Pass and, weather permitting, catch a glimpse of Pico do Arieiro, at the steep Terreiro da Luta, once the terminus of a funicular railway, where we'll visit the Peace Monument, a basalt column topped with a statue of the Virgin and Child. Day 19: Funchal, Madeira, Portugal As we continue our exploration of Madeira, today, we'll travel to the village of Monte, perched above Funchal, and known for its cool mountain air and dramatic views, which made it a popular retreat for the island's wealthy in the 19th century. We'll have some free time to explore the village, including its iconic twin-towered church, Our Lady of Monte, and the surrounding area. Next, we'll take a cable car as we admire panoramic views of Funchal Bay, the River João Gomes, and the surrounding Laurisilva forest, a unique and rare ecosystem that is home to endemic species like the Madeiran long-toed pigeon. The cable car will take us to the Botanical Gardens, a private estate showcasing over 2,000 plants, in a harmonious display of vibrant colors and exotic flora, thriving in the island's favorable climate. Known for its pastel-colored buildings, intricate tile work, and the soulful sound of fado music, Lisbon is a city that captivates with its authenticity. The streets are a living artwork, with cobbled pathways and picturesque houses that seem straight out of a painting. One of the city’s most iconic features is the Azulejo ceramics decorative tiles that adorn buildings across Lisbon in shades of blue and white. These are not just aesthetic but reflect the city’s rich cultural heritage. Lisbon also offers stunning viewpoints, like those from São Jorge Castle and Miradouro da Graça, where you can take in panoramic views of red rooftops, winding streets, and the shimmering Tagus River.
