Known as the land of a million elephants, Laos is the most serene country in Southeast Asia. The landscape is a stunning mix of mist-shrouded mountain peaks flanked by jungle-clad valleys, beautiful French colonial towns, gilded temples, golden Buddhist stupas and the magic of the Mekong. Overused as a battleground in its time, Laos is now watching from afar as the rest of Asia is racing ahead. Both physically and spiritually, the world here moves at the pace of the saffron-robed monks who set out at dawn in search of alms. Laos is a place where the skyline is defined by mountains and temples rather than skyscrapers, where cicadas and waterfalls drown out the hum of city traffic and the only sound in the temples is silence. The exotic Laos is a laidback and charming place, characterized by scenic boat journeys, lush riverside settings and the pervading Buddhist culture. During this journey, you will experience the essence of old Asia with glittering temples, unique hill tribe cultures, and the mighty Mekong flowing through it.

If you are combining this tour with the Thailand tour, your connecting flight from Phuket will be arranged for you.

Day 1: Luang Prabang

If you are combining this tour with the Hidden Treasures and Beaches of Thailand tour, you will arrive in Luang Prabang shortly before noon. After settling in at the hotel, we will enjoy a private city tour, including visits to the Royal Palace Museum and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong which with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, represent classical Laotian architectural style. We'll also visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrines of Wat Aham and Wat Mai. In the evening, we'll relax over dinner to share our impressions of the Laotian way of life.
Meals: B, D
Accommodations: Victoria Xiengthong Hotel

Day 2: Khuang Si Waterfall

Today, we'll wake up before dawn to participate in offering of alms to hundreds of saffron-robed monks. This awe-inspiring, early morning ritual dates back generations in Laos. After the ritual, we'll watch the town come to life in the morning and after breakfast, we'll drive to Kuang Si Waterfall, which though not very high, is a sight to see. Defined by its green aura, the waterfall's gentle cascades flow into turquoise pools, among the surrounding mists, and create a surreal impression. En route, we'll stop to visit a fresh produce market of Talad Phosy, then we'll continue to Ban Na Oune, a small village of a hill-tribe ethnic Hmong people, the best-known minority group in Laos. We'll also visit the village of Ban Tha Pane, home to the K’mu tribe. Our picnic lunch will be served at a shady park near the Kuang Si Waterfall, and there will be plenty of time for relaxing and swimming in the cool water, before we head back to Luang Prabang.
Meals: B, L
Accommodations: Victoria Xiengthong Hotel

Day 3: Pak Ou Cave

Today, we'll travel on a long-tailed boat on the Mekong RiverEn route, we'll pass by quaint Laotian villages, barely visible behind a screen of riverside foliage, as slender canoes bob by the shore and bamboo poles and floats mark the location of nets and fish traps. At the end of the journey, we'll visit the mysterious Pak Ou Caves in the side of a limestone cliff near the mouth of the Mekong and Nam Ou Rivers. The sanctuaries at Pak Ou consist of two large caves, containing a collection of thousands of Buddha images, in various sizes, shapes and colors. We'll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant on the bank of the Mekong River, then we'll return to Luang Prabang by the same boat, stopping on the way to visit Ban Xangkhong, a village known for its wood paper making and Laotian silk weavings with natural dyes.

Why travel with other women?
Many women do not have families or compatible friends who wish to travel. When going on a main-stream tour, women often find that most activities are geared towards couples and quite often they feel left out. Singles' tours are not always what women are looking for. If you do not have a traveling companion, there is also the issue of the expensive "single supplement", sometimes as much as 50 or even 100 percent of the tour cost. By going on women-only tours, women can easily avoid paying for the single supplement by sharing a room with another woman traveler.
